U.S. Marriage Equality in the Social Media

If you haven’t been living under a rock the past few weeks you have surely noticed a new trend among Facebook and Twitter profile pictures. A symbolic new red symbol with an equal sign has swept the social media world, representing the support of marriage equality.

The symbol is a temporary revision logo for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights advocacy group and organization. While the original logo for the HRC is a yellow equal sign inside a blue square, it still represents support for same-sex marriage like the original.

This was a great subject for a Storify post because it blew up all over social media. I like how you used multiple sources, did some pictures, and some quotes from celebrities. I wonder why the symbol changed from blue and yellow to red..

Such a great topic for Storify! It’s interesting how many variations the symbol has taken on. Even in our hyper-media world, it shows how a simple image still carries a ton of power
